What Is The Age Rating For Hocus Pocus (1993)? Parents Guide
Your kids are probably asking if they can watch it. It is the season!
But should they?
As always, you know your family best. Hocus Pocus may be kid-friendly for your household, but not for your neighbors.
That’s what this parents guide is for.
If you have questions about the age rating for Hocus Pocus, this parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give Hocus Pocus (1993) age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.

- hell
- damn

Age Rating For Hocus Pocus (1993) Is It Safe For Kids When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
There’s no actual sex in the movie, but Winnie’s turned her lover (and that’s what he’s called) into a zombie.
Your younger kids may ask questions about that term.
Sarah Sanders is also seen to be boy crazy and is often hit on by men throughout the show. A bus driver scene in particular where she sits on his lap to drive feels uncomfortable, even for an adult.
Dani points out that Allison has breasts (yabos) and that Max likes them.
Max and Allison snuggle together and almost kiss.
Is Hocus Pocus Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
A few things may be triggers for your family, making Hocus Pocus not ok for kids.
One is obvious: this is a movie about witches and all the evil that they do!
If your family is not one to watch shows that fictionalize spells, witchcraft or talk of s@tan, then Hocus Pocus is not kid-friendly for your household.
The other concern may be that one of the spells requires a virgin to enact it. And that specific term is said over 10 times throughout the movie.
One time in particular a police officer asks Max if he is still a virgin, and seems surprised that he is one. Max is maybe 15 or 16 years old, so this could be something your family doesn’t want to explain or discuss with younger children.
Adults are seen smoking and drinking and teenagers ask for cigarettes during a bullying scene.
The Sanderson Sisters also find a house during a Trick or Treat scene where the owner is dressed as the devil. They fangirl him and call him Master.
Violence and Gore: Is Hocus Pocus Too Scary For Kids Under 8?
There are a few jump scares and moments that might have been scary in 1993, but the visuals of 2022 make them look cartoonish.
There is a zombie, a cat gets run over by a bus (and we see the after-effects), fingers are crushed in a manhole, a young girl is killed, and the witches are shown being hung to death.
While we wouldn’t call Hocus Pocus scary, it does have some moments that might shock a sensitive child in 2022.
Hocus Pocus Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Hocus Pocus (1993) is rated PG for scary sequences and language.
A PG rating is for parental guidance, and we do think that parents should watch Hocus Pocus with their kids.
Is Hocus Pocus (1993) Appropriate For Kids Under 8?
We’re on the fence with this one.
As always you know your kids best.
On its face, the subject matter may be too mature for most young children. Language is certainly something to be concerned with.
But due to the age of the special effects, kids have probably seen scarier shows and movies at this point.
This Hocus Pocus parents guide hopefully gave you some ideas of what to expect before you let your kids watch the movie.
