Teens and tweens love scary movies and this one might be right up their alley.
But is Nope safe for kids? Is it age-appropriate for teens under the age of 17 to watch?
This parents guide for NOPE will help you decide if your family can handle the gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the Nope age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Language In Nope
For a scary movie, language is actually the biggest issue from a parenting standpoint.
If language is a big no for your family to experience, then Nope is not kid-friendly or safe for teens.
If you’re a family that doesn’t sweet a few (ok, more than a few) F-bombs, then Nope might be ok for your kids.
Here’s a sampling of the language we heard in Nope. Most words were used multiple times.
- F-bomb (and variations of the word)

Violence and Gore: Is Nope Too Scary For Teens Under 17?
Nope isn’t the most violent or gory Rated R horror movie out there. We were surprised at this.
If you are comparing it to Stranger Things, we’d say Stranger Things is much more violent and gory than Nope.
The R rating is mostly going to be falling around the language used.
A side story includes a violent animal rampage that results in the death of a kid and other adults. This animal is shown with blood dripping from its mouth and hands.
The scary alien doesn’t have too many gory scenes, but there are some jump scares centered around this aspect of the movie.
There’s one intense “rain” scene that shows a lot of blood coming down around the house.
Most of the deaths involved in the movie do not happen on screen.
