Age Rating For The Invitation: Is It Safe For Kids When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
The premise is a twist on the old Dracula tale.
In The Invitation, a young woman is romanced by a stunning rich man who she jokingly agrees to marry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a joke and after their whirlwind romance, things get very frightening.
A couple has sex but the extent of the action seen on the screen is the removal of the shirts and passionate kissing, along with a morning discussion while still in bed together.
There is a full nude backside of a woman as well.
While the sexual tension is ripe, it doesn’t show too much nudity or acts on screen for a mature teen.
Is The Invitation (2022) Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
One big thread throughout the movie is the loss of parents.
Evie is a recent orphan who is still working through the grief of her loss. This could be triggering for some families.
Racial and socioeconomic disparities are also discussed throughout the film.
Violence and Gore: Is The Invitation Too Scary For Kids Under 13?
We’ll admit: we thought this was a rated R movie going in.
And the whole time we also thought- hey, this isn’t *too bad* for teens to see.
The good news is that it’s not too violent or too gory, all things considered.
The Invitation does employ jump scares and typical vampire death scenes (death by fire or staking). There are deaths and some blood.
Drinking blood happens as well (hey, it’s a vampire movie! Of course, it does!) but overall the movie isn’t going overboard with gore.
It’s scary enough to make you want to look away from the screen when you know something is coming, but not too scary to terrify when it actually does.
The Invitation (2022) Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
The Invitation (2022) is rated PG-13 for terror, violent content, language, mild sexual content, and partial nudity.
Can kids under 13 see The Invitation?
Is The Invitation Appropriate For Kids Under 13?
As always: you know your kids best.
As long as your family is ok with some mild swearing and a wee bit of nudity, The Invitation could be appropriate for tweens and teens.
It is just scary enough to titillate, but not too scary to cause long-term concerns or nightmares. A horror or vampire-loving tween or teen would be appropriately entertained with this movie.
However, this might be a movie you prescreen before showing at your 12-year-old’s slumber party.
