About Babylon (2022)
From Damien Chazelle, Babylon is an original epic set in 1920s Los Angeles led by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Diego Calva, with an ensemble cast including Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Jean Smart.
A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.

Age Rating of Babylon: Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of Babylon?
It’s big, its glam, and its hot! But it’s also definitely not for kids.
We’ll run down all the pertinent info as usual, but we’ll also be upfront: unless you are completely permissive, this movie is for an adult crowd. Full stop.
However…
This parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the Babylon age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Language
If you think of a swear word or dirty word or phrase, it’s likely said at least once in Babylon.
Your kids will hear:
- Multiple uses of the F-Bomb in all its forms
- @ss
- sh!t
- d@mn
- g-d d@mn
- J@sus Chr!st
- c@nt
- c@ck
- p@ssy
- b@stard
- wh@re
etc etc etc… it’s a lot when it comes to language.
Age Rating of Babylon: Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
And it’s also a lot when it comes to sex.
While there are some attempts at romantic involvement, mostly the characters are all about sex.
There is a lot of nudity in Babylon, full frontal for both males and females throughout the movie.
Weird sexual acts are performed throughout the movie as well.
Homosexual, as well as heterosexual relationships, are explored.
Violence and Gore: Is Too Scary For Kids Under 17?
There is at least one jump scare in the movie.
There are also various violent deaths and blood shown in Babylon.
An elephant poops all over a man and a woman pukes all over a party. It’s disgusting to be honest.
While it’s not incredibly scary, there is enough violence and gore to caution against younger children seeing this one.
Is Babylon Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
Sex, power plays, elitism, racism, antisemitism, and drug use run rampant throughout the movie.
Cocaine and slurs are flowing in Hollywood in the 40s and 50s.
There are multiple instances of death by suicide in Babylon.
Age Rating of Babylon: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Babylon is rated R for Graphic Nudity, Drug Use, Bloody Violence, Pervasive Language, Strong & Crude Sexual Content.
As always, you know your kids best.
Parents Guide: Is Appropriate For Kids Under 17?
When it comes to teens watching rated R movies, most parents seem to have their own “full stop” levels.
Maybe it’s nudity or sex, maybe it’s graphic violence.
Those tend to be the two areas that parents decide not to let their kids watch a rated-R movie over.
Babylon is crossing lines in both areas. It’s sexual and violent.
We’d suggest keeping most (ok, all) kids under 17 at home for this one.

Wow, seems like the guide might mention one of the early opening scenes include a woman urinating all over a naked man’s body (including in his face and mouth). I’m just thinking it might be important to most parents or even just the average person trying to decide whether to watch this or not. Do better!

Appreciate the feedback- always welcome- and I'll just point out a few lines you may have missed:
We’ll run down all the pertinent info as usual, but we’ll also be upfront: unless you are completely permissive, this movie is for an adult crowd. Full stop.
Weird sexual acts are performed throughout the movie as well.
Specifics for this movie would have taken a full server of detail so I chose to cut to the chase early on.
