Age Rating of Barbie Movie: Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of Barbie Movie (2023)?
This parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the Barbie Movie age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.

Language
There really isn’t too much swearing in this movie, which was a nice surprise for a PG-13 rating.
Your kids will hear:
- crap
- OMG
- h@ll
- d@mn
- mother f-cker (the F-bomb is fully bleeped out but your kids know exactly what the Barbie is saying here)

Age Rating of Barbie Movie: Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
The only nudity in Barbie Movie is shirtless Kens.
There is no sex or real romance happening in Barbie Movie either.
I know I heard of a “sex scene” between Barbie and Ken but this is nowhere in the final cut.
There are verbal sexual double entendres and jokes that may go over younger kids’ heads. Or they may take that moment to ask you to explain it to them. One joke talks about a “beach off” which is a clear play on words for masturbation.
There are mentions of things like Ken’s nude bulge and Barbie being catcalled on the streets in The Real World.
Barbie is completely honest to a group about her lack of a vagina and Ken’s lack of a penis.

Violence and Gore: Is Barbie Movie Too Scary For Kids Under 13?
This movie has a few chase scenes and a fight scene or two, but they are played for laughs with over-the-top experiences.
There are no weapons in Barbieland, so the fighting happens with sports equipment.
No guns, no knives, no blood in Barbie Movie (2023).

Is Barbie Movie Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
This is the area that your family may have the most concerns with.
For a movie with a lot of playful and fun moments, it does go deep and somewhat dark at times.
Without giving too much of the plot away, here’s what you should consider before taking the younger kids to the movie.
Barbie lives in Barbieland, where everything is perfect every day for Barbie. Women run the world here, and the Kens are… well, just Ken.

Kens aren’t treated badly at all- Barbie is way too nice for that!- but they are treated as an afterthought, and that certainly can open discussions for your family.
Ken finds out that in The Real World, the men are in charge and he falls in love with the patriarchy. This sets in motion big changes in Barbieland and Barbie has a few existential moments.
Thematically, feminism and the patriarchy are front and center from about midway on.
The Ken’s do some day drinking of Brewski Beers but don’t appear drunk.
Mattel and the male-dominated, profits-first corporate world are also given a pretty deep ribbing throughout.

Barbie Movie Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Barbie Movie is rated PG-13 for sexual suggestions and some language.
But what’s the true age rating for Barbie Movie?
Parents Guide: Is Barbie Movie Appropriate For Kids Under 13?
As always, you know your kids best.
This is a fun movie with so many incredible meta moments in it. I think most kids 10 and up could safely watch based on the content alone.
The kicker will be the themes and mature discussions; some kids won’t be ready for those kinds of discussions under the age of 13.
Parents, if you have concerns, please pre-screen this one. I can’t wait to go back and see Barbie in the theaters again- so you probably won’t mind going twice!

Clearly you don’t understand the real meaning of “Beach Off.”
It’s a competition of who can do the activities at a beach better to mean who would win the beach. Then the looser would be kicked off the beach.
You can’t “beat off” without a penis anyway. Besides why would 2 guys mad at each other trying to prove who is better do that. Ya’ll get your minds out of the gutter.
