Violence and Gore: Is Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Too Scary For Kids Under 8?
There is typical Marvel violence including the use of guns and shenanigans going on in this special.
Cops shoot guns, a police car is flipped over and a house is broken into.
A kidnapping occurs, there’s a fistfight, and a Christmas tree is thrown around.
While telling the story about Yondu, Yondu does yell. But it is told through an animated section, so it may not have the same impact as a live-action Yondu.
Is Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
Grief and loss are discussed during some surprisingly emotional scenes.
Characters drink alcohol in a bar scene.
Santa Claus Warning
If you have kids who still believe in Santa, this movie could ruin a bit of that magic. A song makes reference to Mrs. Claus swinging on a pole… so, yeah, irreverent Guardians for sure!
You may want to screen this one in advance so you know how to counter some of the moments that are brought up.
Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is rated TV-14 for mature content.
Parents Guide: Is Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Appropriate For Kids Under 8?
We know the kids are dying to see it, and we know you’ll likely let them if they are big Marvel fans.
If the general irreverence of the Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t put your family off, then the Holiday Special is much tamer than the movies.
We think kids as young as 6-8 can watch this one if the Santa issue isn’t a concern, but 10 and up is a pretty safe bet for this one.
