But it’s the most interesting one so far, so if you enjoy the story, you may really love this version.

Violence and Gore: Is Pinocchio on Netflix Too Scary For Kids Under 12?
While it’s not a gory film, there are some violent moments parents may be concerned about that makes Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio too scary for some kids.
Animals and children are treated poorly by adults, including verbal and physical abuse of animals.
The movie is set during a time of war, and bombs kill people in the movie. There’s use of wartime weapons (guns even by children).
There are scenes that depict death in a few ways including drowning, near drowning as well as some arson is thrown in there!
This is certainly the darkest Pinocchio yet and may not be suitable for all kids 12 and under.

Who saw Fascism coming in Pinocchio? Well, it’s there.
There are also some religious depictions and shaming that could be a problem for some families.
There is some potty humor and characters are seen smoking and drinking as well.
Grief and loss are big plot points throughout the movie, making this one more impactful on an emotional level than the 1940 cartoon your kids may be most familiar with.

We think this one is going to work for a select audience.
It’s pretty emotional, dark, and weird- which is right up some kids’ alley!
While we think you can let kids as young as 8 watch Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio on Netflix, we’d suggest previewing it before you do. A better age range will be 10-12 (and older) for this particular movie.
