Age Rating of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny: Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny?
This parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Language
There is a bit of swearing and cursing in this one, but it wasn’t as frequent as I feared going in. They really kept this one pretty PG in the language department.
There are no F-Bombs heard in Indiana Jones 5.
Your kids will hear:
- p!ss
- sh!t
- g-d d@mmit
- h@ll
- J@sus
- d@mnit
- stupid
Age Rating of Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny: Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is also pretty clean in this regard as well. There is no overt nudity in Dial of Destiny and no sex at all.
There are a couple of scenes with shirtless men (one with Indy in his boxer shorts).
A character makes a leering remark about a shirtless man looking “promising.”
There’s a little bit of kissing and light romance between a once-married couple at the very end of the movie; it’s sweet and a callback to a previous movie.
Violence and Gore: Is Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny Too Scary For Kids Under 13?
There are violent and gross scenes on similar levels to the other Indiana Jones movies (minus the 2nd one that I think is the most concerning for kids).
Hand-to-hand combat, guns, explosions, bombs, plane crashes, and overall peril happen throughout the movie. A child is also in the thick of the chase, so to speak, for many of these scenes.
A body is run over by a car after being thrown off a motorcycle, people are shot, and bloody wounds are shown through clothes.
There is an underwater scene with attacking eels that might be concerning for some kids- especially if they don’t like snakes (ala Indy).
There are multiple skeletons shown and bugs covering people in the movie.
If your kids have any issues with creepy crawlies or claustrophobic visuals, you may want to prescreen this one.
Is Indiana Jones 5 Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
There are a lot of deeper conversations going on while the action is flying.
Child trauma with a sick father and feelings of abandonment are covered. Indiana has recently gone through a divorce and there is mention of a death of a child.
Characters are seen drinking and smoking, and using alcohol as a coping mechanism at times.
A woman is engaged to a mobster (who she leaves) and he comes after her to kill her, graphically saying his father sent him to take off her head.
The Dial of Destiny Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny is rated PG-13 for language, action, sequences of violence, and smoking.
Parents Guide: Is Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny Appropriate For Kids Under 13?
As always you know your child best.
We think kids as young as 10 can safely watch this one if they have some exposure to similar action adventure movies.
You could go as young as 8 if they have seen the previous Indiana Jones movies and can handle fast pace action. There’s very little blood and no sex which makes this safe for kids on those levels, but the violence and the language could keep you out of the theater.
As a reminder: the original Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark is rated PG, but that’s early 80s PG. It’s certainly rated PG-13 by current standards.
But this movie is also pretty long, clocking in at about 2 hours and 20 minutes long. If you have wiggle worms, you may want to wait for the movie to hit Disney Plus.
If you want to have an Indiana Jones movie marathon, here’s how to watch the movies in order.
