About Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile
Based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a live-action/CGI musical comedy that brings this beloved character to a new, global audience.
When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle – a singing crocodile (Shawn Mendes) who loves baths, caviar and great music-living in the attic of his new home.
The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm’s must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.

Language
Lyle is pretty clean on this front!
The only true concern for some families might be the use of “OMG” (we heard it at least 3 separate times).
Other than that, there are no swears in Lyle.
There are some unkind words but honestly, they weren’t even strong enough to make much of a note for the reviewer.
Age Rating of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile: Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
Again- totally clean for the win.
There are some shower scenes (male chest up only) that are definitely not sexual in nature.
A couple shares a kiss, and a family hugs; everything is pretty clean and kid-friendly in Lyle Lyle Crocodile.
Violence and Gore: Is Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile Too Scary For Kids Under 8?
We think most young kids can handle the very mild jump scares in this movie.
There is no violence or gore to speak of, but there are some intense scenes when it comes to animal neglect.
Lyle is attacked and captured by the animal control folks (totally expected behavior to be honest- they were just doing their job!). But a sensitive child, particularly when it comes to animals, may be upset at these moments.
Kids will also see an adult thrown from a moving car, but he bounces up quickly.
There’s burping and potty humor included in this movie.
Is Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
Champagne flows in Lyle, Lyle Crocodile.
Even Lyle is shown with a glass!
But no one actually drinks it or appears drunk in the movie.
Kids may also feel connected to being moved around and attending a new school, needing to make friends and the anxiety that comes from that.
A child has a panic attack and needs his inhaler.
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Lyle Lyle Crocodile is rated PG for mild peril and thematic elements.
So how young can safely see this movie in theaters?
Parents Guide: Is it Appropriate For Kids Under 8?
As always, you know your child best.
We feel Lyle Lyle Crocodile is appropriate for kids 4 and up, assuming they are comfortable sitting in a theater for 1 hour and 46 minutes.
There’s enough to keep them engaged, especially when Lyle sings. And not enough to scare them or expose them to anything super concerning in our opinion.
