Age Rating of Shazam 2: Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of Shazam 2?
This parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Language
Shazam! Fury of the Gods does give a pretty good run when it comes to language: meaning, there’s a fair amount of it peppered throughout.
Your kids will hear:
- g-d d@mn
- h@ll
- @ss
- @sshole
- holy sh!t
- mother f— cut off
- sh!t
- OMG
- d!ck

Age Rating of Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
Shazam 2 does not have any nudity or sex in the movie.
There is some romance but it’s limited to hand-holding, hugging, and a few kisses. The more concerning thing (and it is mentioned by the parents) is that the romance occurs between two very different ages, even though the people involved look the same age.
We’ll leave out the details to avoid spoilers but it was noted and kinda wince-inducing.
Kids will probably gloss over it, but as a parent, it stood out.
A sexually transmitted disease is mentioned.
Violence and Gore: Is Shazam 2 Too Scary For Kids Under 13?
This one isn’t nearly as violent, scary, or gory as the original Shazam!
There’s no boardroom scene level of scares, for example.
That being said, there is still plenty of fighting, bodies flung around, people put in danger, and some blood is shown. People are possessed.
There’s a scene with an impalement wound that definitely could make a smaller child squirm.
The big bad is a huge wooden dragon who causes a lot of destruction to the city.
The most disturbing scene is one where a teacher walks off a tall building to his presumed death.
Is Shazam! Fury of the Gods Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
This movie, like the original, has a lot of family-related concerns and issues.
The kids in the movie are all foster kids, and with that comes a lot of information about their backgrounds (loss, abandonment, etc).
One character comes out as gay in the movie. The character is seen hiding the fact that he’s looking at a shirtless man early in the movie.
There are scenes surrounding bullying at school.
Vaping is mentioned and a presumed hangover is as well, though no alcohol is seen being consumed.
Photosensitivity Warning For Shazam 2
In case you forgot, there’s a lot of lightning and flashing lights when the kids transform into their superhero selves.
If you or your kids are sensitive to this, be aware that there are many flashing scenes in this one.
Age Rating of Shazam 2: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is rated PG-13 for sequences of action and violence, and language.
Parents Guide: Is Shazam! Fury of the Gods Appropriate For Kids Under 13?
As always, you know your kids best.
Shazam 2 is slightly better from a kid-friendly standpoint than the original movie. If your kids watched and can handle that one, they should be fine with this one.
We’d say kids 10 and up should be good for Shazam Fury of the Gods unless language is a huge problem for your family.
