About The Flash Movie (2023)

Warner Bros. Pictures presents “The Flash,” directed by Andy Muschietti (the “IT” films, “Mama”). Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past.

But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.

That is unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.

Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Age Rating of The Flash Movie (2023): Is It Safe For Teens When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?

There is no overt romance or sex, but there is nudity in The Flash movie. A shirtless man, as well as one in tighty-whities underwear, are shown. A woman in bed in her bra and shorts is also seen.

But wait- there’s more!

Your kids will see a nude backside and strategically covered front side of a naked Barry.

Sexual references and jokes are said, but this is one of those your mileage may vary on if the kids pick up on them.

Violence and Gore: Is The Flash Movie (2023) Too Scary For Kids Under 13?

This is a typical superhero action movie with explosions, weapons, end-of-the-world scenarios, and babies falling out of 12-floor buildings.

Oh, that’s not typical? My bad.

There is a scene at the beginning of the movie where multiple babies- BABIES– are pitched from a crumbling building. In typical Flash fashion, time is slowed down so we can see the efforts to save the children (and a nurse).

It’s low-key horrific, though played for comic effect. My theater laughed- I massively cringed and kept saying “why why why whyyyyyy.”

If you have a sensitive child, this could likely land on the “give me nightmares” level rather than a funny one. (Yes, all babies are saved- ONE IN A MICROWAVE YALL- but … it’s a long-ish sequence and really isn’t all that kid-friendly in my opinion).

Phew- clearly I haven’t gotten past this scene.

Your kids will see hand-to-hand combat, deaths of characters, electrocution of a character, guns, and knives.

A parent is shown being stabbed to death in their own home.

There are some bloody scenes and one vomit scene as well.

Is The Flash Movie (2023) Ok For Kids: Mature Topics

As mentioned above, there is a theme of grief and loss as it pertains to the death of a parent. There is also a plotline where an innocent man is convicted of murder.

Characters are shown consuming alcohol to the point of drunkenness. There are also mentions of being drugged, though no drug use is shown on screen.

There is some potty humor- while not really “mature content,” your family may not appreciate it as much as some (all families are different!) so we wanted to give a warning.

The Flash Movie (2023) Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?

The Flash Movie (2023) is rated PG-13 for partial nudity, violence, and language.

Parents Guide: Is The Flash Movie (2023) Appropriate For Kids Under 13?

As always, you know your children best.

And this movie may be just up your alley!

But if language or child endangerment (even though it’s meant to be humorous) could be a concern, screen the movie before taking your kids.

I think kids who love superhero movies and have seen similar films or shows will be able to handle most of the content in The Flash movie. But as a general age rating for The Flash (2023), we’d stick with 10 and up.
