Wonka Age Rating: What Ages Can Really Watch This One?
Wonka is rated PG for violence, mild language and thematic elements. But what exactly does that mean? We’ll break it down for you to give an age rating for Wonka that will help you decide if your kids can see it.
Age Rating of Wonka: Parents Guide (7 Big Things)
Can your kids watch this one? What is the age rating of Wonka (2023)?
This parent’s guide will help you decide if your family can handle the seven big issues with movies and shows: mature topics, gore, violence, language, sex, romance, and nudity. We’ll also give the Wonka age rating and age-appropriate recommendations.
Language
Wonka has very little language to be concerned about for a PG movie.
Your kids will hear things like:
- Stupid
- Oh my Lord
- Old Hag
- brat
It is very mild on the language scale.
Age Rating of Wonka (2023): Is It Safe For Kids When It Comes To Sex, Romance, and Nudity?
A heterosexual romantic relationship in the movie involves some flirtation and light kissing, with the couple wearing robes at one point.
There is no sex or nudity in Wonka.
Violence and Gore: Is Wonka Too Scary For Kids Under 6?
Wonka has some mild peril and some violent scenes that could be upsetting to very sensitive children.
For the most part, the violence is far away and not up close (no fist fights or stabbings for example) and there is no death or blood in the movie.
We didn’t think Wonka was high on the violent or scary scale at all, but there are scenes where people try to kill other people through explosions, gunshots, and a near “death by chocolate” drowning scene.
There is some peril and child in danger, but nothing that strikes us as too scary for most kids.
Is Wonka Ok For Kids: Mature Topics
Wonka does touch on some mature topics, like the death of a parent. A parent’s illness and subsequent death is mentioned.
One storyline is about an orphan girl who knows nothing about her family.
Theft, abduction, and systemic corruption are also themes throughout the movie.
Parents Guide: Is Wonka Appropriate For Kids Under 6?
As always, you know your kids best.
But we felt Wonka was pretty kid-friendly for most kids ages 6 and up.
It’s a musical so be aware that some kids aren’t fans of random songs popping up and may get bored. But the visuals and the idea of delicious chocolate should keep most kids entertained for the 2-hour run.
If you need to know when to pee during Wonka, here’s our suggested timetable.
