Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) are threatened by shocking personal accusations, a political smear, and cultural taboos in Academy Award®-winning writer and director Aaron Sorkin’s behind-the-scenes drama Being the Ricardos.
A revealing glimpse of the couple’s complex romantic and professional relationship, the film takes
audiences into the writers’ room, onto the soundstage, and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week of their groundbreaking sitcom “I Love Lucy.” Featuring J.K. Simmons and Nina Arianda.

Is Being The Ricardos Ok For Kids? Parent Movie Review
Like many parents, we grew up watching reruns of I Love Lucy before we were granted seemingly unlimited entertainment access with a cable tv box.
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were a Hollywood power couple who broke barriers and changed the course of the television sitcom.
Kids with an interest in old television, history, or both may be asking if they can see Being the Ricardos.
This movie is rated R, but that doesn’t always mean a hard 17-year-old and up age rating for families.
Is Being the Ricardos Ok For Kids? This parent movie review will discuss the language, sex and nudity, violence, and that rated R rating to help you decide how kid-friendly Being the Ricardos is.
Is Being The Ricardos Ok For Kids: Language
The movie is rated R for language, which means your teens and tweens will need parents’ permission and escort to see this one in the theaters.
It will also be on Amazon Prime Video starting December 21.
The main reason this movie has that Rated R tag is due to the multiple uses of the F-bomb in Being The Ricardos. For what it’s worth: 2 F-bombs or more gets you an R rating, no matter what else is in the movie.
But to be fair: we lost count after 5 uses. So this R is well earned with those parameters.
There are other swear words such as @ss, h@ll, d@mn, b!tch, and sh!t. You’ll also hear g-d d@mn as well.
Violence
There’s no actual violence in Being the Ricardos.
Lucy is shown at one point with stage makeup on portraying a battered face, but it is clear it was for a movie scene and not something we see acted out.
Is Being The Ricardos Safe For Kids? Sex And Nudity
There are two dimly-lit sex scenes that parents should be aware of. Both occur fairly early in the movie.
The actual act does take place, but it is “blink and you’ll miss it” brief as well as happening in the shadows.
Characters are shown in their underwear.
What Ages Are Appropriate For Being The Ricardos? What Rating Is It?
While this is rated R, we feel you can let younger teens watch this one if language is not a big concern to you.
It’s a fascinating tale focusing on the Communist hunts of the 1950s that also touches on sexism and racist beliefs from the time.
There is drinking and smoking- even while pregnant- which was “normal” at the time.
What ages can watch Being the Ricardos? We’d say this one is appropriate for teens in high school whose parents don’t mind the strong language being used.
Ages 14 and up should be safe to watch Being the Ricardos, but maybe wait until it’s streaming in case you want to change the channel.
