About Godmothered on Disney+
Set at Christmas time, “Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell) who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers.
Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston.
Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
Is Godmothered Safe For Kids? Movie Review By Mom
Godmothered is one of those movies that I had huge hopes for: it stars two wonderful comediennes (Isla Fischer and Jillian Bell) and had an interesting premise.
What happens to the Fairy Godmothers in training when people no longer believe in the Happily Ever After?
I expected to have a reaction close to my love for Noelle, last year’s star of the Disney Christmas movies.
While I liked it enough, I can’t say it’s going to be on constant rewatch here.
It is a little longer than necessary, and actually kinda slow in the beginning as backstories are played out.
The costumes, the effects, and the acting is lovely, but not overly inspiring to hit that instant Disney classic level.
I know, I know… bummer.
But don’t fret, my Christmas movie loving friends!
The payoff is there at the end culminating in a wild carriage ride worthy of the Cinderella Godmother branding.
And yes, there’s a sweet and uplifting conclusion that will leave your family satisfied- if they stick it out through the long middle parts.
What Ages Can Watch Godmothered On Disney+?
Godmothered is safe for most kids ranging from 5 and up.
There are two main issues I’d caution against for younger kiddos.
The content does discuss the death of a parent (hello, it’s a Disney movie so of course, it does!) that could be concerning for some families.
And as mentioned above, it starts slowly.
A child under the age of 5 might have a tough time paying attention and staying engaged with the content.
The great news is that this is on Disney+! You can stop and restart as needed if you find a wee one’s interest drifting away.
Godmothered Ok For Kids? Any Content To Worry?
Not really!
This is a clean movie as far as language, sex and violence goes.
Thanks to the help of an adorable woodland helper, the house is clean too!
Phew- this is a movie the whole family can watch together when Godmothered begins streaming on December 4.
