Can You See Sonic The Movie Without Knowing The Video Game?
Before we get deep into the parents’ guide, we are not gamers. Never really have been.
So we have zero expectations or prejudice when it comes to this character or storyline.
So can you and your kids see Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and still enjoy it?
Definitely.
But is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ok and safe for kids?
In this parent’s guide and review, we’re breaking down the language, sex/nudity, gore, and violence that happens in the movie to help you determine if watching Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is safe for kids in your home.
Language: Sonic 2 Parents Guide
There is a bit of language that parents should be aware of in this one, but it’s fairly mild overall. Frequent, yes, but no F-bombs or other huge red-flag words make Sonic 2 ok for kids.
However, if the phrases invoking a deity are offensive to you: take note.
OMG and Oh G-d are said fairly frequently in this movie and really stood out.
You’ll also hear low-level swears & questionable words like h@ll, a-hole, and crap in this one, as well as partially completed phrases that lead to swearing (ie, “son of a–“).
There’s also a quick middle finger thrown in there to watch out for.
Is Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Safe For Kids? Sex and Nudity
There’s no overt sex or nudity in this one to be concerned with.
A few male characters are seen without their shirts on, there’s some suggestive dancing, and a few kisses are shared.
But outside of that, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is kid-friendly when it comes to sex or nudity.
Violence and Gore In Sonic The Hedgehog 2: Is It Too Scary For Kids?
There are some punches thrown in general fight scenes.
You’ll see some blood from folks being punched in the face along with a few cuts, but nothing too gory or gross in Sonic 2.
Guns, stun guns, heavy weaponry, and knives are all used in (obviously) violent ways in this movie.
There are also a few intense jump scares that might make a younger child nervous!
Adult Themes
Please note: a lot of the humor is physical that will play well for kids.
But many of the jokes and Sonic 2 dialogue are aimed squarely at adults. It likely may go over their heads, but be aware that some things are said that could be questioned by a child later.
There are scenes with a fair amount of alcohol and drinking in this one as well.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Age Rating
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is rated PG for some violence, action, rude humor, and mild language.
Does this make Sonic 2 ok for your family? What ages can watch Sonic The Hedgehog 2?
We think kids as young as 6 could potentially see this one. As always, you know your family best!
But it has a long run time at just over 2 hours, so it might be a little harder to keep the young ones entertained throughout.
Sonic 2 is fairly safe and family-friendly for most kids with parental guidance.
