Is The Better Nate Than Ever Movie Ok For Kids? Parents Guide and Review
This sweet movie is a welcome entry to family-friendly entertainment.
With Broadway dreams and hopes of being accepted and understood by his family and friends, Nate is an unapologetic and quirky kid who just wants his place in the lights.
Is the Better Nate Than Ever movie Ok For Kids?
In this parents’ guide and review, we’re breaking down the language, sex/nudity, and violence that happens in the movie to help you determine if watching Better Nate Than Ever is kid-friendly and safe for kids in your home.
Sex and Nudity In Better Nate Than Ever
Rejoice, parents. There is no sex or nudity in this one.
There is implied sex as parents are seen on a romantic vacation to celebrate their anniversary. But nothing is seen beyond their laying in bed talking to each other.
Teens at a party talk about kissing but are interrupted before anything happens.
Nate is part of the LGBTQ community as referenced when his female best friend is gently turned down with the comment, “I’m not that way.”
Is Better Nate Than Ever Ok For Kids? Language
It’s easy for language in a teen movie to be overboard and full of swears, but Better Nate Than Ever is actually pretty clean.
Kids say “Oh my gosh” instead of using a deity that we hardly ever see on screen. It was noted and appreciated as a choice.
Mild insults and verbal bullying do take place with names like loser and idiot.
At one point a character says they have a pornographic memory when obviously they meant photographic. But that’s as racy as this one gets.
Violence: Better Nate Than Ever Parents Guide
There is one scene where a kid hits another and causes a bloody nose.
And bullying is a factor in this movie- middle school, right?
Outside of this, there is no violence or gore to worry about in Better Nate Than Ever.
Better Nate Than Ever Age Rating
This movie is rated PG and has a run time of just over 90 minutes.
The PG rating is for thematic elements, a suggestive reference, and mild language.
It’s a great choice for a kid-friendly and safe family movie with some lovely messages of love, friendship, and dreams.
Can kids under 10 watch Better Nate Than Ever?
We think so. With almost no language, sex or violence and a host of positive messages, Better Nate Than Ever is ok for most kids.
Parents do need to be aware that the children in this movie participate in risky behaviors (sneaking off to NYC, lying to parents, holding an unsupervised party).
In all instances, the outcomes don’t appear to have negative consequences, so it’s worth having a discussion on how things might play out differently in your household.
