Political Movies on Netflix (2024)| Watch These Instead of Election Results
Here’s something that can help get you through the next couple of days if you are avoiding the election news coverage. Here’s a list of political movies to watch in 2024. A big buzzword you’ll see this week is self-care. And while self-care is nothing to poo-poo, it can be so hard to do during these crazy times! Dive into this list of political movies on Netflix 2024 and watch these instead of the election results. And if you are looking for non-political shows, check out the most feel-good show right now: Schitt’s Creek! Affiliate links are included in this post.
2020, amirite?
It’s been a century wrapped up inside of a year.
So of course we had to have a contentious election to top it all off.
Folks: it’s going to be a long night/week/month before we get the final results.
If you love a little political drama and intrigue, but prefer the fictional kind over the reality version: check out this list of political movies to watch on Netflix, Hulu, HBO, or Amazon Prime.

List of Political Movies on Netflix 2020
I’m including some series and TV shows as well in this list of political movies to watch because sometimes you just need some short chunks and not a 2-hour long movie.
I get it; my attention span works that way too!
All of these fictional political-themed movies and shows are running on Netflix in 2020. There are plenty of additional titles out there that are based on real events (Borat 2 quotes could keep you entertained alone!), but I think the point of this movie list is to avoid reality.
Even Borat reality ha.
At least a little bit, anyway.
Get your Netflix binge on with these shows and movies:
1. Madam Secretary
2. The West Wing
3. House of Cards
4. Designated Survivor
5. The Politician
6. Olympus Has Fallen
7. Angel Has Fallen
Stream on Hulu: Political Movies and Shows
1. Scandal
2. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (with Showtime add on)
3. Affairs of State
Political Shows to Watch on Peacock TV
1. Parks and Recreation
This is my all-time favorite show to binge- and the zoom reunion of Parks and Rec was everything!
2. Saturday Night Live
3. Friday Night Lights.
If you think for a second that Texas High School football isn’t political, well, you clearly are not from the Lone Star State!
Maybe a stretch, but also a great series and might just be what you need to take your mind off all this mess this week.
List of Election and Political Movies On Amazon Prime
If the streaming service options aren’t floating your boat, try this list of political movies you can rent or watch for free via Amazon.
Some of my faves are over on that service!
1. Election with Reese Witherspoon
2. Homeland
3. Dave with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver
4. The American President with Michael Douglas and Annette Benning
5. Veep
6. Wag the Dog
Okay, so kinda like Friday Night Lights- this one is a little bit of a stretch.
But if you are feeling the need for Christmas movies with a small side of politics included: this is the movie for you!
Who doesn’t love a good underdog story?
9. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
10. The Newsroom
Or just watch this speech from the show and be prepared to binge after it hooks you in!
Alright, this list of political movies to watch on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Peacock TV should keep you entertained throughout election night (or month if things get muddled quickly).
Hang in there- and don’t forget to Vote!
