All The Tortured Poets Department Easter Eggs Taylor Swift Left Us- That We TOTALLY Missed

Sharing is caring!

Swifites were clowning HARD this month, hoping to decode the Easter eggs Taylor Swift left pointing to a new album release. The general discussion on SwiftTok and Twitter centered around the 112-day theory for Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Alas, Taylor played with us BIG TIME by announcing an album of all new music – the long awaited TS 11- at the 2024 Grammys. Here are all The Tortured Poets Department Easter eggs Taylor Swift left us leading up to the announcement- that we totally missed.

The Tortured Poets Department By Taylor Swift

If you were watching the Grammys, you know that Taylor Swift was up for some big awards.

And she won two of them: Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year, both for Midnights. This makes her a 14-time Grammy Award winner and the ONLY artist to win Album of the Year four times.

During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album, she did something bad: she announced that new music was coming on April 19th. It is an original album called The Tortured Poets Department and is her 11th studio album to date.

Why was this bad? It wasn’t, exactly, but she teased us all day on Sunday with all signs leading to a different announcement.

Swifties were convinced Reputation (Taylor’s Version)- the re-recording of her 6th album- would be announced.

Alas, we’re all still waiting for Kayrn’s triumphant return.

What’s On The Tortured Poets Department Album?

The album playlist hasn’t been released, but we have some basic information.

There will be 16 new tracks plus one bonus track called “The Manuscript.”

It’s also coming out as a synth-pop album, similar to Midnights and 1989.

What’s more exciting is the rumored content of the album: this could be a Joe Alwyn breakup album based on the title. Joe stated in an interview from 2022 that he is part of a group chat called “The Tortured Man Club,” which many believe could play into Taylor’s use of the same word for the album.

Is this a Joe diss album?

I guess we’ll find out on April 19, 2024, but until then, here are some of the Tortured Poets Department Easter eggs that Taylor may have left us.

Here’s a list of the TTPD Easter eggs that we missed leading up to this announcement.

Swifties are an intelligent group, but Taylor proves she’s smarter!

Easter Egg #1: There’s a Pattern: 1 New, 2 Re-Records, Repeat

Taylor does have a pattern going when it comes to her music.

She’s released a new album followed by two re-records over the past 4 years.

  • Evermore – December 2020
  • Fearless (Taylor’s Version) – April 2021
  • Red (Taylor’s Version)- November 2021
  • Midnights – October 2022
  • Speak Now- July 2023
  • 1989- October 2023
  • The Tortured Poets Department- April 2024
  • Reputation (Taylor’s Version) – TBD
  • Debut album Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) – TBD

This Easter egg was clear, if you knew what to look for. Which is what makes Easter eggs so much fun!

TTPD Easter Egg #2: Jack Antonoff And Taylor Swift 11 Fingers

In October of 2023, Jack and Taylor posted a picture on her Instagram celebrating Cruel Summer re-entering the charts.

They were in the studio together and Jack is seen holding up all 10 fingers while Taylor holds up one.

10 + 1 = TS 11 (her 11th album)

#3: Reputation (TV) Was a Red Herring

Taylor started us down this path to The Tortured Poets Department the Sunday of the Grammys by changing her profile picture to black and white.

This signaled to Swifties that Rep (TV) was coming and led to them looking for more easter eggs and clues that Taylor may have left.

They thought they found them: the Instagram grid aligned for the album covers, which is typical when she plans to announce something new.

Many of her friends and family had changed their profile pics lately to black and white: Keleigh Teller and Travis Kelce for example.

But the biggest clue came from her website which showed an “error message.” Yeah, that site was NOT down; it was working as intended and the message was full of more TTPD Easter eggs.

Many thought Error 321 was backwards for 1, 2, 3 let’s go b!tch a chant fans use during her song, Delicate which is on the Reputation album.

Instead, it looks like the code DPT:321 signals to read the letters backwards. Which is TPD for Tortured Poets Department.

While these clues felt like they were leading us toward Reputation (Taylor’s Version), there was one clue that gave it all away.

hneriergrd

This unscrambles to read, yep, you guessed it: red herring.

Dictionary.com defines red herring as: A red herring is a false clue that misleads or distracts from a relevant question. It can be a logical fallacy or a literary device that leads readers or audiences toward a false conclusion.

Swifties, look what we made her do!

Easter Egg #4: The 1989 (Taylor’s Version) Letter Had Exactly 11 Capital T’s

She was letting us know that TS 11 was coming.

This letter was posted when 1989 (TV) dropped and if you look closely, you’ll see exactly 11 capital letter Ts for TS 11.

Travis Kelce Easter Egg #5: He Called Her a Poet

While we have no idea if Travis was intentially dropping an Easter egg in his Wall Street Journal interview, we would love to think so.

A couple that eggs together, stays together! Or something like that.

#6 The Tortured Poets Department Easter Eggs: Time Magazine Person Of The Year Title

Many of this missed it- and that might have been by design.

But the Time Person of the Year article was titled, “The Poet Laureate of Pop Culture.”

That’s an Easter egg in plain sight that was largely overlooked.

More Fun Facts That Only Make Sense To Swifties About TTPD

Swifties know that Taylor loves numbers and dates that mean something to her.

We think April 19 is significant for a lot of reasons and why she added this Easter egg to her The Tortured Poets Department announcement.

  • April 19 is the release date. It’s 74 days from February 5, the day most people will hear the news. 7 +4 = 11
  • April 19 is also the day of the “mass unfollowing” of Joe Alwyn. Eagle eyed Swifties noted that Taylor, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were seen out to lunch on April 19, 2023. Later that day, they also noted that neither bestie was following Joe Alwayn’s Instagram account any more.
  • And with that in mind, April 19 is also the date that the American Revolutionary War began in 1775. Some fans noted that Taylor’s dating Travis Kelce signaled her Independence from the British boyfriends (Alwyn, Tom Hiddleston, Matty Healy, and Harry Styles are all notable Brits that have been tied to her dating life. Calvin Harris was a Scott but lived in England so he kinda counts).
