There’s a lot to unpack in Pinocchio.
This version leans heavily into the reason Pinocchio is made. As a reminder, Geppetto created Pinocchio in the image of his young son that has died.

Violence: Is Pinocchio (2022) Too Scary For Kids Under 5?
Pinocchio has scary elements and moments that parents should be aware of for kids under 5.
Kids are picked up and whisked off to Pleasure Island, where they turn into donkeys due to their wild actions. In this version, the kids “know” about the pickup spot and are willingly joining the group.
The scene on Pleasure Island shows kids gone wild: they are drinking rootbeers, vandalizing, and purposely being mean to each other in Contempt Corner.
Eventually, they all turn into donkeys for acting like jack@sses and are sent to the salt mines.
Shadowy creatures rise up and whisk the donkeys away, and end up chasing Pinocchio and Jiminy from the Island. It’s mildly terrifying even for older kids.
The scariest scenes also include Monstro, who is a sea monster in this version, not just a whale. His big teeth and gaping mouth chasing the little family through the sea is still as scary as it was in the original movie.
